One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind
by Mike Keating on Saturday, 13th of June 2015

There are the defining moments in life and history. Many of us will remember the 20th July 1969 as we looked in sheer wonder when a man stepped upon the moon. Neil Armstrong was heard to say the words “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. Apparently, this is not what he said. There was a small glitch in the transmission and the little word ‘a’ dropped out. And, of course, it makes much more senses to say “One small step for a man (Neil), one giant leap for the human race”.

James Irwin also was a US astronaut who made a lunar landing. He found the experience not only deeply significant in his career but revolutionary in his spiritual journey. He came to a new and fresh understanding of God as the creator and designer of life.

He has famously signed photographs of his lunar walk over the years and added the inscription “God walking on the earth is more important that man walking upon the moon”.

This such a staggering truth that it is so easy to miss it. Yes, 1969 was a pivotal point in human history but far more ground shaking was the little baby born in a stable, grew up to be a teacher of truth, a miracle worker crucified, a Lord risen from the dead. That is the day that changed history more than any other day ever.
