Elisabeth Elliot
by Mike Keating on Thursday, 25th of June 2015

Her husband was killed in the amazon jungle many years ago. Jim gave up his life with five others was known to have said “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” He embodied this statement trying to reach the Aucas Indians, a tribe of Ecuadorian jungles. His wife Elizabeth died last Sunday.

What was even more remarkable is that his wife along with others continued the mission! Rather react with a natural unforgiveness, she spent a good deal of the rest of her life trying to win her husband’s killers with the good news of Jesus.

She not only succeeded in reaching the tribe and actually witnessed the killers of her husband came to faith. She has written many books, but more important, she inspired thousands of others to follow in the steps of her husband to lay down their lives for Jesus for the sake of the gospel.

She said “There is nothing worth living for unless it is worth dying for”.

It is our prayer that there will be a new generation of people that will commit themselves to the cause of Christ. We have to rise in our investment of our lives into God’s bigger plan, to give our lives for something worth more than the next toy, distraction, gadget, to lift to a more meaningful life than pleasing oneself.

Christ gives us the absolute freedom that we do not have to be a slave to pleasing ourselves all the time.

Earth is poorer and heaven is richer for the passing of Elizabeth Eliot. There is actually a modern full movie of the story available on Youtube.
