Saturday, 24th April 2010 @ 07:49Life happens
I was reading my Bible this week and noticed afresh the wisdom of the philosopher Solomon in Ecc. 9:11. He observes that life is not fair!
Ecc. 9:11 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.
It's is so true. Things happen that are just random and are not based entirely on the idea that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people.
In fact, Jesus is the prime example. He was altogether perfect, kind, powerful, and good. And yet, he died a cruel death, he died young, he died abandoned, he died unjustly.
Time traps us to the terror of change, and chance. It is only when we have an eternal perspective does the possibility of justice, fairness, and even hope dawn.
It is the resurrection of Jesus that gives meaning to a meaningless world.
